Dilara Sümbül (or Dilara Hacer Almata Sümbül) is a writer from San Francisco and student at UC Berkeley. Her work has been recognized by The National YoungArts Foundation and The Leyla Beban Young Authors Foundation. She was born in the Mission District as the daughter to two dervishes, an accountant and a teacher. She's Turkish American with mainly Turkish as well as Kazakh, Québécois, Polish, and other Turkic ancestry, and is the descendent of Maraş, Istanbul, Almaty, and their literature.
